Australia Day is always one of my favourite events of the year. It offers a moment to reflect on the rich tapestry of our country’s history and progress, whilst serving as a poignant reminder of the values that bind us together as Australians.

This year I had the honour and privilege attending the Helensvale and Pimpama Citizenship Ceremonies where I warmly welcomed numerous new Australian Citizens into our community.

Witnessing the joy and pride radiating from these new citizens was a reminder of the essence of our nation – a land built on diversity and opportunity.

Congratulations to the five Fadden residents who were listed on the Governor-General’s Australia Day 2024 Honours List, recognising individuals for their notable contributions to communities at local, regional, national and international levels.

In the Order of Australia General Division, Mrs Laraine Brennan of Hope Island and Ms Marjorie Gerlinger of Arundel received medals for service to the community through a range of roles, Mrs Dianne Leggo of Runaway Bay also received a medal for her service to women through Zonta International, and Mr Jeffrey Maurice from Jacobs Well for his service to veterans and business. Mr Brian Higgins of Hollywell also received a prestigious Emergency Services Medal.

Congratulations to these outstanding community members and thank you for your services.
